Education, not medical advice

The content on this site is general patient education. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment recommendation and not a substitute for an examination by a clinician who knows your history. Do not use it to decide that a wound finding can wait, and do not use it to decide about a further operation without that examination.

Findings that are emergencies

Nothing on this site overrides the routing that appears at the top of every page. Sudden breathlessness, chest pain or a swollen painful calf, a wound that has come apart, skin at the closure turning dark or blistered, and a fever with spreading redness require emergency care rather than further reading and rather than a review appointment.

No guaranteed outcome

No operation described here can be guaranteed. Body contouring results depend on how tissue heals, on the tension the closure is under and on whether weight stays stable afterwards. A second operation on already-lifted tissue has less skin to work with than the first one had. Where this site describes a typical course, it describes a range drawn from general experience rather than a commitment about your own case.

Results are judged after healing and with a stable weight

An abdomen continues to change for many months after body contouring surgery, and weight change alters the result at any time. The review points described on this site are the ones at which a result can honestly be assessed, and a revision considered before then is planned from a body that is still moving.
