What this site is for

This is patient education about the abdomen after a previous tummy tuck, published by Chongqing West District Hospital, a tertiary general hospital in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It is a triage guide rather than a list of complications. The reader it is written for is looking at a wound, a belly button or a scar months or years after body contouring surgery and cannot tell which of the things they are seeing matter.

The distinction the site is built on

Two questions are kept apart throughout. The first is whether the abdomen is safe now: is the wound closed, is the skin at the closure alive, is the belly button healing, is fluid collecting. The second is whether the result is what it should be, which cannot be answered until the tissue has stopped changing and the weight has stopped moving. The first is answered now and, where the answer is bad, treated now. The second is answered in months.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not describe the technique of a tummy tuck or of an abdominal wall repair, because those operations and the anatomy they work on are explained on the body hub and on the tummy-tuck sites. It does not name products or brands, quote prices or dosages, or promise a result. It does not present a second tummy tuck as a way to obtain the result the first one did not deliver, because there is less skin to work with and the scar has to sit somewhere. And it does not publish an emergency telephone number, a room number or a set of opening hours of its own.

The limits of a website

Nothing here can tell you whether your closure is under too much tension, whether your belly button has an adequate blood supply, whether fluid is collecting, or whether returning laxity sits in your skin or in your abdominal wall. Those are established in person in a few minutes, and they decide everything. Use this site to arrive at an assessment with better questions and to recognise the findings that should not wait, and treat any answer you take from it as general information rather than as advice about you.
